Key Technologies
Sequential chooses to work with the following technologies:
LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
Web-hosting using the proven reliability and security of Apache on Linux. Development using the flexibility of PHP and the unrivalled speed of MySQL. Together they form a platform unrivalled in its scope.
WC3 standards-compliant (X)HTML and CSS
Gone are the days of messy nested table layouts. Our hand-coded (X)HTML ensures maximal standards compliance and the CSS-based design ensures maximal accessibility under the greatest variety of browsers, keeping the HTML free of clutter.
JQuery AJAX and Smarty Templating
User-interfaces can be improved using 'AJAX' methods, which allow webpages to respond dynamically in real-time without the need to keep pressing the "submit" button. We use JQuery Javascript libraries for AJAX and also to also add attractive visual effects, such as are seen on the sliding topic-picker on lawbore.net.
We also use the Smarty templating engine for maximum flexibility of design. This allows changes to a site's design to be made very swiftly, without the need to rework any PHP code.
Security built in
We are very aware of the ever-growing need for security, and our web applications are designed from the ground up to guard against common "hacker" threats. These include code injection, variable poisoning, cross-site scripting, robot form-spammers and email address-harvesters.
Full compatibility
No client is ever left behind - that's our motto! We design our sites for the latest browsers, but in such a way that they will also work on older or less-capable browsers without Javascript and CSS. Any modern AJAX features are added in a way that the information they provide is still accessible even with the most basic text-only browsers. We test our sites to work consistently across Mozilla, Internet Explorer, Safari, Konqueror and Opera browsers.
